In Anjou, Stéphane Bernaudeau is known as a discerning individual who challenges himself to create something truly unique. His dedication has led to the creation of a dry white wine from a grape that perfectly complements all flavors. Sometimes reserved, sometimes humorous and charming, but always driven by a single goal-to create a legendary white wine with the expressive power of Chenin, without compromise.
JE SUIS UN PEU FOU
With a 3ha vineyard primarily consisting of slate and sand, Stéphane Bernaudeau has his hands full taming the naturally productive Chenin. The timely detection of pourriture, which occurs frequently, is of utmost importance. During the harvest, his dedication to quality is evident as he has 24 pickers walking around for six days for 3ha. In addition, he has two tables at the beginning of the vineyard where another 8 people sort the grapes again, ensuring that only the healthiest grapes remain. This dedication to quality and the health of the grapes is what sets Bernaudeau wines apart. He may be considered a bit crazy, but for him, the wine chic is the vendange - great wines are made in the vineyards.
MOBILE WIND TURBINE
The haute gamme Les Nourrissons Vignes Centenaires, Les Terres Blanches, Les Onglés are wines that push the boundaries of your palate. They are brilliant and precise, each sip revealing the unique identity and nuance of Chenin. Stéphane's pursuit of perfection is relentless. 'I adore the elegant, delicate, fine, pure, straight, neat and precise side. I have these flavours in my head and I want to match them every time'. When the illusion was disastrously taken away from him in 2016 and 2017 and the harvest was lost, he resorted to buying a mobile wind turbine and with success. He recently bought the plots of Les Coqueries and La Possonnière in Bonnezeaux, resulting in magnificent wines that are a testament to his dedication and the unique characteristics of his wines.
FAMILY AND GORDON SETTER
In recent years, Stéphane Bernaudeau's wines have not only gained recognition but also set a new standard for unparalleled quality and complexity. They have become sought after and widely praised by collectors worldwide, a fame to which he seems immune. Despite this global acclaim, Stéphane remains rooted in his hamlet of Cornu, near Martigné-Briand, where he takes care of his family, the beautiful Gordon Setter, and, of course, his vineyards.
